Sam strode down the corridor, lost in thought. She had never seen Daniel react in such a way before. Martouf hadn't done anything wrong, just given her a kiss. And hell, that was nothing if Jolinar's memories were anything to go by! She grinned at that thought. Yes, Martouf definitely knew how to push a woman's buttons. But that was Jolinar, not her and besides, she didn't feel that way about Martouf.
Sam looked up in surprise as Jack barreled into her. "Hey major, watch where you're going," he yelped.
"Sorry, Sir," she replied. "I was lost in thought."
"Hey, that wouldn't have anything to do with Daniel's behavior before, would it?" he queried.
Damn the man, Sam thought. He knew her to well. "Well Sir, as a matter of fact..."
"Well Carter, I know what's bothering him."
Sam raised her eyebrows. This should be good. "Really, Sir? Did you ask him? Has it got something to do with Martouf? It never seemed to bother him before that we were good friends and..."
The Colonel burst into laughter. "Good friends? Is that a new name for it, cause that sure ain't what it looked like to me. Daniel's jealous that's all. How long has it been since you and Daniel had one of your nights in or talked about some mysterious rock? And that little snake-man walks in and manages to steal your heart - or at least that's what it looked like. Of course he's mad. I would be too." And with that he turned on his heel and strode away.
Sam just stood there, mouth hanging open, watching his retreating back. God he's infuriating! she mused, eyes narrowing. I wish he'd come back here and explain himself. Although he does have a point. I haven't really seen Daniel since...well since Teal'c killed Amounet/Sha'uri. I mean I offered comfort and he always comes and talks to me if he's upset, but jealous? Daniel? I don't know about that. We've never been more that friends, although maybe Jack meant jealous as in friendship jealous. Although there was that time on the sand dunes when Daniel found Martouf holding my hand. Nah, Jack must be imagining things. And who's he calling snake-man? Martouf is a very...nice guy. Nice? What kind of a feeling is that? He's supposed to be one of the people closest to you. Oh shut up Sam. You think too much. Sighing she turned and walked away.

Daniel practically ran to his office, reaching for the coffee as soon as he closed the door. He took a refreshing sip, feeling the caffeine flow through his body. God this stuff's good. He shook his head and headed for the computer. He had lots of work to do, that is if he could keep his mind away from that particularly disturbing image of a certain blonde locked in Martouf's arms. I don't know why it's bothering you that much, he thought to himself. It's not as if you're in love with her or anything! He chewed his bottom lip. It's just that you don't want Sam to get hurt that's all. But ever since Sha'uri died she's always been there...I'm just lonely is all, and I've suddenly realized that I don't have anyone. I don't particularly want Sam, just someone. Satisfied that he had resolved his conflicting emotions, he sat down at the computer and began to type a brief on the artifact he had brought back from PX9375.

"Chevron 6, engaged!"
The team walked into the Gateroom as the voice boomed over the loud speaker.
"Chevron 7, engaged!"
Sam swung a cursory glance towards Daniel, frowning slightly. Ever since that incident with Martouf, he had been distant but pretty much normal. That was fine with her, except now she was having trouble figuring out if it had happened at all. Perhaps it was just that he had been in a bad mood that day - but that didn't explain his sarcastic comment. Sam started, realizing that the Colonel had been calling her name.
"MAJOR!" he barked in his best CO voice. Sam started, realizing that Teal'c and Daniel had already stepped through the event horizon. "Sorry Sir," she muttered, striding up the ramp. Damn Daniel. He had been occupying more of her thoughts of late, so much so that she was beginning to wonder what was really wrong with her. But she would ponder that later, she thought as she stepped through after her Colonel.
The planet they arrived at was seemingly a peaceful one, with a small village and a diverse enough culture, similar to that of the Aztecs, that Daniel and Sam could explore and find artifacts of interest. Daniel was already talking to the tribal chief in the native language, both gesticulating wildly. This was one of the few languages that Daniel was not fluent in although he was doing quite well con- Can't you keep your mind on other things for five minutes? She thought irritably. It was getting on her nerves the way that her mind kept on wandering to his baby blues and how cute and adorable he looked in that floppy hat of his and how the way he licked his lips sent shivers up and down her spine and... Oh brother. I am in sooo much trouble.

Daniel continued talking to Karati. "And they took one of your women?"
The old man nodded vigorously. "The King said he needed another wife to give him more children. They said that they would be back within the hour to check that the Tau'ri had not come. They said if you tried to hide from them that we would be punished. You must leave at once. We cannot afford to risk our peoples lives."
"I understand Karati. You are a kind and honorable man." Daniel turned and yelled, "Jack! Bad news! We have to leave ö now!"
"What for?" said Jack jogging towards him, Teal'c following.
"Apparently there are some heavy Go'ulds trying to find us. The tribe said he called himself Apophis."
"Oh great! Big scary dude! But that's not exactly possible since we killed the bugger."
"Well I don't really want to hang around and find out. The description Karati gave me matches and I really don't think we should stick around to find out if he was accurate in his description. You know that he's gotta have one huge big grudge against us for sending his body back." All three men turned suddenly as the familiar sound of the Gate engaging echoed around the valley.
"Oh, shit," Jack muttered. His attention turned to his 2IC, who was standing there staring dreamily into space. "Major," he yelled as he strode across the valley. She didn't respond and the first Jaffa stepped through the event horizon. "MAJOR!" he tried again as he broke into a run feeling his heart starting to pound as four more Jaffa stepped through followed by an extremely familiar looking man. Oh just what we need, the King himself has returned. Jack let out a sigh of relief as Sam seemed to wake up and moved to grasp her weapon. By then however, one of the guards had his bearings and turned to shoot her with his zat-gun. He heard Daniel scream out her name as the shock hit her and she crumpled to the ground. Jack immediately brought up his gun to start firing, but a familiar voice stopped him.
"Shoot and she dies, Tau'ri!" Apophis' voice rang out across the space. "We will be looking after your friend for a while. I wish to make a bargain with your race, and this hostage will come in handy. Perhaps you will be more willing to comply with my wishes. I will meet you on this planet in three days to make my wishes known." Apophis gestured to his guard and then turned, disappearing through the Stargate, taking Sam with him.
Daniel watched helplessly as Teal'c ran forward to see if he could retrieve the address of were they had come from off the DHD. He shook his head as he turned towards Jack, saying, "I am sorry O'Neill, it is too late."
"Dammit! OK folks, let's move out and report to General Hammond."

Sam's last memory was aiming her gun to shoot down the Jaffa, and seeing a very familiar face. Oh God I hope that that wasn't who I thought it was. If so the Colonels probably got a symbiote inside him, Daniel's probably having sex with some vixen and Teal'c will be being tortured for information. The next thing she knew, she was awake and lying in an extremely uncomfortable position, feeling like someone had just ripped out half of her side. Thank God Apophis wanted to torture and play with her, otherwise she probably wouldn't be alive.
She gingerly sat up, grimacing at the pain in her side and looked around for the others. She suddenly realized that she had absolutely no idea if they were still with her or dead or in another room. Great. Not only am I stuck here all alone, I also have to figure out a way to escape by myself. I hope that they are back at SGC planning how to rescue me otherwise I'm gonna be mighty pissed off. She refused to think about the other option.
She glanced around the room. It was small with no windows and a door at each end, both of which were heavy wooden things with iron bolts holding it together and hinges on the outside. There was no furniture except for a stand with a basin of water on it, and they had left some bread and a mug on the ground next to it. Well, Apophis must have been in a good mood. He's actually left me something edible.
Sam heard footsteps approaching the door behind her and she turned as it swung open to reveal two Jaffa guards wearing those hideous snakeheads and another of Apophis' minions who said, "You have been asleep for a day. In two more I will come and get you and take you back to the planet where you were captured. Until then there will be a guard at each of the doors. Any attempt to escape will be punished with death." He then turned and nodded to the guards who walked to opposite ends of the room and took up their stations. "Enjoy you're stay." He turned on his heel and left.
Sam sighed. There was nothing she could do. There was no way she could overcome two Jaffa. Great. And the waiting begins. She settled down, eventually falling asleep.

"I'm afraid there is nothing to do but wait until Apophis tells us what he wants. There is no use trying to rescue the Major as it would probably take the time we have to find what planet she's being held on."
Daniel sighed, knowing that General Hammond was right, but wishing he wasn't. Jack was the first to ask the question everyone was thinking. "So are going to do ö absolutely nothing?"
"Colonel, I see no other way," said Teal'c. "We may risk Carter's life by going after her."
"And as usual, you have a point, Teal'c. Space Monkey? Hello? Earth to the doctor?"
Daniel's head snapped up. "Sorry Jack, what?"
"Do you have anything to say?"
"Uh, no. I kind of agree with Teal'c, but I think we need a plan so if Apophis decides to go back on his word, we have some backup. And I think you should come up with that plan Jack, so if it doesn't work I can kill you."
"Danny, that was a really poor attempt at humor."
"Well, I'm not exactly firing at the moment, Jack." I've got other things on my mind, for instance the fact that I've hardly spoken to Sam since Martouf left. He winced as he remembered that incident. Well it's not my fault that I can't control my feelings. Yeah good excuse Space Monkey!
Jack stood there watching Daniel muttering to himself and shaking his head. Did he just say Space Monkey? OK I'm getting really tired, along with everyone else. "General Hammond, can the team have permission for some downtime for the next 40 hours? I think we're all in desperate need of a break, and we're going to need all our wits when we face Apophis."
"I think that's a wonderful idea Colonel. As soon as we come up with a back-up plan, you all have permission to leave."

Sam slowly became aware that someone was shaking her. She lifted her head of the floor groggily, immediately gasped, and threw her arms around the figure in front of her. "Martouf, what the hell are you doing here? How did you get in? Does SG1 know you're here? More to the point are they even alive?" Sam looked up at him with hope in her eyes.
"Yes, Samantha, as far as I know they all returned safely through the stargate, and are planning your rescue as we speak."
"But how did you know I was here?" Sam was extremely confused. "As far as I know you aren't a Gou'ld, and certainly not a Jaffa." She motioned to the snakehead lying across the room.
"Samantha, I am afraid I do not have time to explain everything to you. We only have a few minutes to escape before my Îcompanion' arrives, and we have already wasted much time. Can you walk?"
"As far as I know." Sam let him help her to her feet and lead her across the room. They were just about to make a hasty escape as the door slid open to reveal an angry guard with a fully bared staff weapon.
Shit Sam thought. How the hell are we going to get out of this one. She glanced at Martouf in surprised as she felt him take her hand. OK Martouf this really isn't the time to be making moves... She stopped as she felt him push a Gou'ld hand device into her palm. Not stopping to think she slipped it onto her fingers and let out an almighty blast that sent the guard hurtling into the passage wall.
Martouf motioned her along the hall. "Come, it's this way."
"What is?" She replied.
"The transport rings."

Meanwhile, the others were walking up the SGC ramp into the event horizon for their meeting with Apophis.
Daniel stepped out onto the platform on the other side and immediately began to pace the length of it, fiddling with his fingers and licking his lips nervously. Jack looked on with amusement.
"Danny-boy, ya might want to move, cause I don't think Apophis would like bashing into a measly little doctor as he steps out of the Îgate." As Daniel gave him a dirty look and walked past him as Jack added in lower tones, "She'll be fine." Daniel attempted to send a smile in his direction.
At that moment the Îgate engaged and Apophis and his guard stepped out. The SG1 team immediately noticed something missing. However no one acted on it until Daniel surged forward, presumably to kill Apophis, only to be caught by Teal'c and the Colonel. However, although they could stop him from getting killed, they couldn't stop him from screaming out, "What have you done to her you bastard!"
Apophis looked on calmly. "She was not cooperating with my wishes to give me a child. I killed her. Now, about our agreement..." He broke off and looked at the team in amusement as Daniel sank to his knees on the ground, and Jack rushed forward only to be caught by one of Apophis' guards.
"Your killing me with not bring her back O'Neill, and" he turned to address Daniel, "neither will your love. I guess you should have said something earlier," he sneered.

Sam and Martouf stepped through into the Gateroom into the defenses of the SGC, and Sam could swear that General Hammond almost ruptured something when he saw them.
"Major, Martouf, to the infirmary, there's a debriefing in half an hour. And it's good to see you Major.
Later, Sam sat down feeling extremely guilty. "So they went in after me?" she asked miserably.
"They really didn't have much of an option, Major. And, besides, if I hadn't sent them out, Dr. Jackson would most probably have killed someone.
"Sir?" Sam queried.
"That man was almost hysterical, Major. He actually said to the Colonel that he would kill him. Apparently, he really cares about you."
Sam flushed and lowered her head. "He cares about everyone, Sir. And he still loves Sha'uri."
"I wasn't saying anything about love Major, nor was I implying that your relationship was anything other than friendship."
"Oh," she said quietly. Yeah, you go Sam, make an idiot out of yourself. She was aware of Martouf looking at her with a slightly bemused expression. Oh great, now everyone knows you're in love with Daniel - hang on shouldn't that be thinks you're in love with Daniel? Oh admit it, you stupid fool, you've been in love with him forever. And now he's probably going to die.
Forgetting for the moment that she wanted nothing more than for the floor to open up and swallow her, she asked tentatively, "So what do we do now, Sir?"
"Well, Lantesh says that the Tok'ra are prepared to fight Apophis, but I think that he will be so embarrassed to see you walk through the Stargate that that will be all the opportunity we need to overcome him and his four guards. Martouf says that the Tok'ra will take him and imprison him. Let's get moving, you and SG5 leave in half an hour."
* * *
Sam took a deep breath before priming the hand device and stepping through the Îgate. Everyone had agreed that since she was becoming more handy with it, it would be the most effective weapon, and Apophis most likely wouldn't have time to ready his. She just hoped that seeing Apophis would give her enough rage to kill him.
She landed lightly on the other side and took out the two guards standing guarding the Îgate before anyone knew what was happening, then quickly scanned the grounds before her. Apophis, Jack and Daniel were standing about one hundred meters away, with Daniel in her firing range. Knowing she only had a few more seconds before the Stargate engagement registered, she yelled just as Daniel and the others turned, "Move Daniel!" and hoping he had enough sense to move let out a huge energy blast from her hand device.
Meanwhile the rest of SG5 took care of the other guards and ran to Jack, who was standing there looking kind of stunned. Martouf started talking to Jack in hushed tones, quietly explaining all that had happened.
Sam lay on the gate ramp for a few seconds staring at the sky, before she realized she had absolutely no idea if it was Daniel or Apophis she had hit. She got up and sprinted the distance to were she had last seen him. He was on the floor with his eyes closed. And looked to a traumatized Sam he looked to be very dead, never mind the fact that Apophis was lying next to him with a nice big scorch mark on his stomach and chest. She knelt beside Daniel and placing one hand on his shoulder, the other on the ground she whispered in his ear, "I'm really sorry Daniel." Then she yelped in surprise as his eyes suddenly flew open and he sat up and snapped, "Well, ya know, a little more warning would have been nice."
Sam sat there stunned as he got up and stalked off. Jack took one look at her face and tried to offer some comfort, "It's nice to see you alive, Major. Apophis gave us the impression you were dead." Kneeling down in front of her he enveloped her in a huge bear hug and whispered, "And he really is very glad to see you, even if it doesn't look like it." Sam did her best to hold back her tears as she got up and readied herself to leave.
* * *
Sam sat in the briefing room with her hands cupped around her coffee mug. OK; now I'm pissed off. I totally understand if he doesn't have feelings for me, what with Sha'uri and all, but I'm still his friend and he basically ignored me after we got back from that Aztec planet. And he was so bloody rude. Dammit, I could have sworn that from what the General said Daniel actually had some feelings for me other than friendship. I guess I've got to confront him sooner or later. I'm just going to try my damnedest to make it later. She slowly lifted the cup to her lips and took a slow refreshing sip of the hot liquid, unaware that the door had slid open and Daniel was standing there watching her.
Man am I glad to see that women. He mused to himself. Now if only he could tell her how he really felt instead of walking away and obviously hurting her feelings by not saying hello properly. He suddenly lost his train of thought as he watched Sam lean back in her chair, coffee mug abandoned on the table as she stretched, closing her eyes and raking her teeth over her bottom lip.
Oh woh, gotta stop that train of thought. She'd probably leave me crippled for life if I jumped her now, although if what Jack said was right... He suddenly had absolutely no control over his body as he strode over to her chair and cupped her face in his hands, bringing his lips down to hers in a soft, sweet kiss.
Sam started in surprise when she felt two strong, gentle hands draw her face slightly upwards to a waiting pair of lips. She was too surprised to respond, her eyes staring at a blurry face a few millimeters away from her own. You know, I could swear those features belong to a one Daniel Jackson. Her suspicions were confirmed as he drew away took one look at her face and darted to the farthest corner of the room. "Sorry," he muttered going bright red.
Sam did a double take before recovering. He had actually kissed her, which meant that there was a chance that he felt something more for her than just friendship. So, what are you going to do about it Sam? Well, I think I'm just going to take a really huge chance.
"What for exactly? As I recall all you did was give me a peck and um... well it's nice to know that you actually care whether or not I'm alive or if I have some nasty little symbiote inside me." As she spoke she moved out of her chair and walked to the corner that Daniel had managed to squish himself into. "The only real problem I have with this little predicament is the fact that you didn't kiss me properly, but if you'd like to amend that now I think I might be able to forgive you."
Daniel stood there looking at her standing there casually with her arms crossed over her chest, a humorous sparkle in her eyes. Did she just say...Oh who cares. In a swift movement he pushed himself out of the corner and took her into his arms turning her so that her back was against the wall, just behind the door to the briefing room. "Sam, I'm sorry I didn't tell you that I was scared you weren't going to come back before. Or that I missed you and that I was jealous of Mar..."
Sam firmly placed her hand over his mouth. "Daniel, I know. But right now I don't really care." With that she pulled his head towards hers.
Daniel acquiesced, and lowered his head. Softly he brushed his lips over hers, once, twice before claiming them properly. Her mouth was hot from the coffee she had been drinking, and Daniel made a rumbling sound in his throat as he felt her tongue trace his lips. He let her tongue enter his mouth and smiled when he heard a gasp as his tongue touched hers, before quickly deciding that he wasn't going to think as she kissed him more deeply.
His hands slipped into the back pockets of her fatigues and cupped her bottom before he bent his knees, and pushing his hips into her, lifted her off the floor, at the same time pushing her head back further to plunder her mouth.
Sam stood on the tips of her toes as she let Daniel have his way with her. Her head was swimming, and she had absolutely no idea that he would be this good with his mouth. OK, the man was obviously the sexiest thing she had ever laid eyes on but still...
Daniel stopped suddenly as the door hit him lightly on the back and Jack walked in. Sam murmured in protest and tried to capture his lips again, but stopped when she heard the colonel's voice.
"Oh...well it's about bloody time! Don't let me stop you." Jack grinned as the guilty party turned and gave him the foulest look he had ever seen. "But if you don't want an audience you can continue after the debriefing, OK? I don't think General Hammond would approve if you kept going during the meeting."
Sam desperately looked around for something to throw at the colonel, but stopped when Daniel murmured in her ear, "I'll pick you up at eight."
She gave him the sweetest smile he had ever seen. "OK."
END.
