Statistical Outliers
And you have decided you don't give a damn.
There's no such thing as fate, no matter how many universes (and fans) have paired Jack and Sam together. And as much as we love Jack, he comes with a boatload of emotional baggage, shields three feet thick around his heart, and the barriers of rank and protocol -- not to mention that sense of humor! There are those in the SGC betting pool who think what Sam really needs is another scientist; let's say, oh, a geeky anthropologist who wears his heart on his sleeve and needs to take care of someone almost as much as he needs to be taken care of? And let's talk Daniel -- who else can keep up with him when he goes off a mile a minute on something no one else in the room understands? No one except his good friend Sam. They've been through Hell together; it's time for a little taste of Heaven.
Those other Carters, they never met him. He was dead in their world, or on a dig in Cairo, or just... gone. So the whole question of how you felt about him never came up in those alternate realities; the one you're living in now is the
anomaly. The statistical outlier, the one place on the graph that doesn't fit the curve. Which pretty much sums up Daniel, when you think about it.
It's the doorway to brand new worlds -- a gate to the stars, and all the discoveries and danger they hold. The Goa'uld are out there, looking for hosts to carry their parasitic snake bodies, and the Tau'ri -- we -- are their only true enemies. The four members of SG-1 (Jack O'Neill, Teal'c, Sam Carter and Daniel Jackson) are the premiere team of the Tau'ri, sent into the worst and strangest situations; the only thing stronger than their loyalty to Stargate Command and Earth is their dedication to each other.
Strong, beautiful, supremely competant, and did we mention she's a brilliant astrophysicist? A career Air Force officer from a career Air Force family, Sam has no problem holding her own with the guys -- the problem is finding the right one to settle down with. Her record so far includes a psycho ex-fiancee, a sweet yet clueless Tollan, and an equally sweet yet equally clueless Tok'ra; we're pretty sure she can do better. The Carters of a bunch of alternate universes met their match in Col. Jack O'Neill, her (admittedly) hunky and cool smart-ass of a CO -- but is he really the right man for the job? (Played by Amanda Tapping.)
The anthropologist/archeologist/linguist who unlocked the mystery of the Stargate, Daniel is no slouch in the brains department himself. In fact, he's great at taking care of the rest of the universe, especially his teammates -- he'd kill or die for any of them (literally; he's done the death part about four times now). It's in taking care of himself that he runs into problems. The death of his wife, Sha'uri, while a Goa'uld host left Daniel all cute and vulnerable (what? He is cute when he's vulnerable!); it'll take just the right woman to start his broken heart healing. (Played by Michael Shanks.)
You know the odds. You know the score. You know what the other versions of you are doing in those other realities, and who they're doing it with.
